Ghani’s tweet an interference in internal affairs of Pakistan: Firodus

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Tuesday said the recent tweet of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is an interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan and contrary to the diplomatic norms.

In a tweet, she said Afghan leadership should keep in mind the principles of non-interference in international relations while issuing such statements. She said Pakistan strongly advocates promotion of peace in the region and is desirous of working collectively for achievement of shared target of peace in Afghanistan. It is obligatory under the law, being an independent state, to take action against those who speak against the Pakistan’s constitution, she added. Paying tributes to the martyred, she said that Pakistan’s armed forces and brave masses have rendered great sacrifices for restoration of peace and added miscreants will not be allowed to destroy peace of the motherland as law of the land will take its course against them.

In a late night press release on Monday, the Foreign Office had noted with serious concerns the recent tweets by President Ashraf Ghani, terming those a clear interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. “We believe that such statements are not helpful to the promotion of good neighbourly relations between the two countries,” the Foreign Office spokesperson had said. According to the spokesperson, Pakistan wished to maintain close and cordial relations with Afghanistan based on the principles of non-intervention and non-interference and urged the Afghan side to work together for the common objective of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region.
