SC allows Kamal Azfar to plead NRO review case

ISLAMABAD: A 17-member larger bench of the Supreme Court on Monday permitted Barrister Kamal Azfar to appear before the court to plead a case seeking review of the SC’s December 16, 2009, verdict against the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Azfar will now appear in place of the federation’s lawyer Masud Chishti. During a brief hearing of the case, the bench allowed Azfar to plead the case instead of Chishti and directed the SC Registrar’s Office to take up the federation’s review appeal for hearing. Later, the proceedings were adjourned for an indefinite period. Earlier, Azfar informed the bench that he had filed an amended appeal on part of the federation, deleting the paragraphs objected to by the Registrar’s Office and adding some new points in the fresh appeal. staff report
