Zardari reaches China on six-day visit

 

BEIJING: President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in China on a six-day official visit on Tuesday to hold talks with Chinese leaders including the president, the prime minister and the chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), provincial leaders and heads of major corporations. The president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the president was received by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhi Jun and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khan at the Beijing airport.

Upon arrival, Zardari told reporters that his visit was aimed at pushing forward the process of strategic engagement, enhancing economic and trade ties and bolstering people-to-people contact to lend greater depth and a newer perspective to bilateral relations.

He said it was a continuation of the process of learning from the rich diversity of Chinese economic and development miracle and benefiting from their expertise in the fields of agriculture, education, communications, energy and industry. “This is my fifth visit to China since October 2008 and I have truly been inspired by the remarkable achievements of the Chinese people and its wise leadership,” President Zardari said. Babar quoted the president as saying that the foundation of a strong friendship with China was laid by the visionary policies of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. app
