Ashraf calls for close coordination among all depts for flood mitigation

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Thursday stressed the need for close coordination among all organisations concerned with flood-prevention and mitigation in order to ensure the protection of life and property during the forthcoming flood season.

He made these comments while presiding over the 45th annual pre-flood meeting of the Federal Flood Commission held to review the preventive and protective measures made by the federal and provincial departments concerned for the upcoming flood season. He said Islamabad would provide all resources for the successful implementation of flood-management measures on long term and permanent basis.

The minister advised the Pakistan Meteorological Department to assist the government's efforts by providing effective flood forecasts this year. There should be foolproof arrangements in place to ensure that the flood passes from Lai Nullah, Rawalpindi without any loss of life and property. staff report
