Degrees of several more lawmakers found bogus

LAHORE: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has received verification details from the universities concerned about the academic degrees of parliamentarians, and the certificates of several more members of provincial and national assemblies have been found to be fake or suspicious, including two federal ministers, a private TV channel reported on Friday.

According to the channel, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mazhar Hayat is a fake-degree holder because the US university concerned did not verify his certificate. The Abdul Latif Bhitai University has also declared Balochistan Senator Nawabzada Magsi’s BA degree fake, while the seminary degrees of Balochistan Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Abdul Samad and two Khyber Pakhtunkhwa MPAs – Abdul Qayyum Khan and Syed Javed Hussain – were reported to be fake along with parliamentarian Wali Muhammad’s degree, the channel reported. The Bahawalpur Islamia University has also declared PML-N MPA Saima Aziz’s degree fake. The educational credentials of Minister for Postal Services Mir Israrullah Zahri and Minister for Livestock Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd were found to be “suspicious” during the initial scrutiny, as the universities authorised by the HEC had not issued their respective degrees, the channel reported.

The HEC has also received objections from the universities concerned on the academic degrees of PML-N MNA Salman Mohsin Gillani, MNA Wasim Afzal, KP MPA Gulistan Khan, and Balochistan MPA Rubina Zafar Zahri. daily times monitor
