Nawaz for expulsion of Mastikhel

LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Saturday called for the expulsion of MPA Sanaullah Mastikhel whose resolution against the media passed by the Punjab Assembly has led to an uproar and protest by journalists.

Addressing a press conference in the wake of the controversial resolution, Nawaz left the decision to expel the MPA to Punjab chief minister and his younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif.

The PML-N chief is currently in the British capital on a private visit.

Nawaz said the MPA, who once belonged to the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), had tabled the motion to hide his own guilt as he might have been in possession of a fake degree himself.

Endorsing support for a free media, the PML-N chief said that much like an independent judiciary, the media had played a key role in stabilising and strengthening democracy in the country.

“ Nobody will be allowed to use the party platform for personal gains or ulterior motives,” he said.

He described fake degree-holders as “cheaters” and said, “They must be unmasked.”

Nawaz accused the PML-Q for being involved in this controversy so as to avenge its defeat in the recent by-elections in Gujrat.

The PML-N chief urged his party leaders to help guarantee freedom of press so that a unity and solidarity among the democratic forces of the society could be created. He said everybody had to develop fortitude to put up with positive criticism. app
