PPP strong enough to foil conspiracies

* Gilani says solution to country’s problems lies in democracy
* There is vibrant activism by parliament, judiciary and media
* No clash possible if institutions remain within their ambit

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is strong enough to foil all conspiracies, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Sunday.

“The PPP has come to power through a democratic process and after rendering sacrifices, and as such, it is in a position to frustrate any conspiracy against it,” Gilani said while addressing a convention of PPP office bearers and workers from Larkana at the Sindh Chief Minister’s House.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, PPP Secretary General Jehangir Badar, PPP Women’s Wing President Faryal Talpur and several federal and provincial ministers were also present in the convention.

Solution: “The solution to our problems lies in democracy, which should be strengthened in order to ensure a brighter future for the country,” Gilani added.

The prime minister referred to the sacrifices rendered for democracy and the country by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, PPP office bearers and workers and the general public.

“Because of these sacrifices, democracy will continue and the country will not face any danger,” he said.

The prime minister said the top priority of the government was to alleviate poverty and control price hike.

Gilani said at present there was an activism of parliament, the judiciary and the media in the country.

“We all should work together with the spirit of understanding. By remaining within one’s ambit there is no danger of any clash,” Gilani said at the convention.

The prime minister said he would direct ministries to implement the five percent job quota for minorities and the 10 percent quota for women in recruitments in letter and spirit.

He said the Benazir Income Support Programme would be run in a transparent manner.

Gilani said a poverty survey had been undertaken in 27 districts and it was underway in the remaining districts, adding that the disbursement through the BISP would be made once the survey was complete. The prime minister said that after the 18th Amendment, a major part of the budget would be transferred to the provinces. app/staff report
