Court is not for to destroy system: CJ

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry in his remarks said court is trying at maximum level to save the present system by supporting it.

A 17-judge full court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was hearing petitions challenging certain clauses in the amendment on Wednesday.

Hafeez Pirzada continued his arguments in today’s hearing and said any constitutional amendment should be evaluated within the parameters of basic constitutional structure. Undue criticism on judiciary must be stopped. He said article 175 A is not a constitutional amendment but a new legislation. He also praised some clauses of the 18th amendment.

Chief Justice in his remarks said court is not sitting to destroy the system. It is duty of court to save even a single executive order.
