Shahbaz equally responsible for PA resolution, says Hashmi
* PML-N leader says independent judiciary, free media essential for diemocracy
ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is equally responsible for the tabling of the anti-media resolution in the Punjab Assembly (PA), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said on Tuesday.
Hashmi, talking to a private TV channel, said that Shahbaz, being the captain of the PA, was equally responsible for the moving of the resolution. The PML-N leader said that all the political parties, who have representation in the PA, were also responsible for the tabling of the notorious resolution. He said that it was the beauty of democracy that the same assembly has passed another resolution to rectify the situation. Hashmi alleged that former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf had introduced the condition of graduation for becoming a legislator to keep seasoned and mature politicians out of the political system. The PML-N leader slammed the parliamentarians, who were elected despite possessing fake degrees, and said that this was not a characteristic of a true representative of the masses. Hashmi told the private TV channel that if democracy was allowed to flourish, all the problems of the country would be solved and the nation would move towards socio-economic development.
Separately, the PML-N leader addressed a dialogue titled, “Whether judiciary and media are a threat to democracy”, which was organised by the National Press Club. He said that an independent judiciary and free media were essential for democracy. app
