Talks to pave way for ‘sustained dialogue’: FO
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said on Wednesday that the talks between Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Indian counterpart SM Krishna will bring positive results. Talking to a private TV channel, Basit said that there was no fixed agenda for the meeting, but the two foreign ministers would discuss all issues including Kashmir, water distribution and terrorism. He said that official talks between Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Krishna would begin today (Thursday). He said that during his stay in Pakistan, the Indian minister would also hold separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani. “Kashmir is the core issue between the two countries, which should be resolved,” the spokesman said. He hoped that the meeting would bring positive results and pave the way for a successful and sustained dialogue. To a question about US sanctions against Iran, the spokesman said it would not affect the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project. He also expressed the hope that the project would be completed in 2014 and it would help meet the energy crisis facing Pakistan. Replying to a question about the Pak-China civil nuclear deal, he said the reservations of any country on the matter were baseless. “Such a nuclear programme has become necessary to promote economic growth in the country,” he said. app
