Sindh CM opposes canal reopening
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday said that Indus River System Authority’s (IRSA) decision to open the Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal (CJLC) was unjustified, but conceded that the province was getting irrigation water according to its needs. Speaking at a ceremony held at the Karachi Press Club, the CM said the Sindh government would write a letter to IRSA to demand the revision of its decision, adding that decisions made at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had not been implemented completely. He said the CJLC had been opened on Thursday, although the IRSA meeting had decided that it would be opened after the needs of Sindh and Balochistan were met. staff report
