World should extend support to Pakistan, says President

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday called upon international donor agencies, the world community and friends of the country to extend optimal support and assistance to the democratic government of Pakistan. He said the assistance would not only rescue the war-ravaged economy, but also create vistas of opportunities for the people affected by the war against terrorisms. He said this during a meeting with World Bank Vice President Isabel Guerrero who called on him at the Presidency. She was accompanied by World Bank Country Director Rachid Benmessaoud. The president said the country had suffered immensely in the global fight against terrorism and its economy had been gravely damaged by the war. Zardari said the government was looking forward to international donor agencies and other partners for support to overcome various challenges. He also called for trade and market access for Pakistani products to US and European markets. app
