India, Pakistan have no other option but to talk: Kasuri

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India have no other option but to talk to resolve their outstanding issues, former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri said on Friday.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said, “I have the belief that we should go beyond political differences on national issues.” The entire process covering the issues of Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachin, people-to-people contact, economic affairs and trade, which was moving on during our period, was suspended after the Mumbai attacks. This is the first high-level bilateral meeting in Islamabad and its importance cannot be denied, he added.

Kasuri said India was aware that the Kashmiri youths “are on the street with stones in their hands, and it would certainly not wish to worsen the situation”. Pakistan is not suffering from terrorism alone, “India too faces attacks from different insurgents particularly Maoists, almost every other day,” he said. “If the two countries do not realise the severity of the situation, and other countries exploit their fault lines, they will get destabilised which would be unfortunate,” he added. app
