Pakistan, India should learn from Europe: Altaf
* MQM chief says diplomatic talks should be continued for a peaceful resolution of disputes between both countries
Staff Report
KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said Friday that Pakistan and India should take lessons from Europe, which indulged in infighting for a long time and finally realised that fight was not a solution to any dispute as friends could be changed but not neighbours.
Speaking at the inauguration of the MQM’s media centre at the party’s headquarters Nine-Zero, the MQM chief said, “Diplomatic talks should be continued for a peaceful resolution of disputes between both countries.”
“We should accept each other as neighbours, as well as discuss the core issues for their settlement,” he opined, adding, “We appreciate bilateral talks between the two countries even though they concluded without any positive outcome, but they should continue.”
The exchange of delegations between the two countries could help develop cordial relations, he pointed out.
Speaking on domestic politics, Hussain those who contested parliamentary elections with fake educational degrees were unable to address the problems being faced by the people.”
Those politicians, who criticise the requirement of an educational degree, should have a moral courage not to contest the elections under such a rule, he remarked.
Hussain criticised the anti-media resolution passed in the Punjab Assembly and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
He also asked parliamentarians to maintain parliamentary language while addressing anyone, especially the media.
“I condemn the language used by some parliamentarians in Punjab Assembly against the media,” he said.
He asked the provincial governments to provide proper security to journalists during riots and other law and order situations.
Hussain directed his party workers to respect journalists at all levels and not use improper language with the media.
The MQM has remained attached with issues related to journalists and if needed, it would protest side by side with the media across the country, he said.
Hussain said the new MQM’s media centre was equipped with modern technology in accordance with the current communication era.
