We want dialogue

* PM says Pakistan wants good relations with India and both countries are sincere in improving ties
* Hopes Singh will fulfill his promises of holding talks on all issues

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday called for more dialogue with India, a day after Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi accused New Delhi of limiting the dialogue by refusing to discuss key issues.

“We want dialogues, they (India) too want dialogues, so when there will be talks, then we will discuss all issues,” Gilani told reporters after inaugurating a new power plant in Balloki.

“They (India) had told us that they want to talk on all issues and I am sure that the Indian prime minister is an honourable man and he will fulfill all his commitments,” Gilani said.

The PM said that Pakistan wanted good relations with India and both countries were sincere in improving ties.

“Pakistan is sincere in resolving issues through dialogue and it is our desire that India, along with its people, and we, along with our people, hold talks to improve relations between the two countries,” Gilani said.

Responding to a question, the prime minister said that there would be no mid-term polls in the country. “If someone is disqualified, by-elections will be held in that constituency,” he said.

The PM said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government was following the constitution and it would complete its constitutional tenure. “The government is stable. But, if there is a flaw in society, it will reflect everywhere, whether it is bureaucracy, judiciary or the parliament,” the PM said

Condemning the murder of Balochistan National Party-Mengal leader Habib Jalib, the PM said he had ordered a judicial inquiry into the issue.

To a question about the corruption cases registered against the Higher Education Commission chairman’s brother, the PM said the government did not believe in political victimisation. He said he would meet the HEC chairman to discuss all issues.

To a question, he said that he had good relations with the judiciary, and “one can confirm this statement from the chief justice of Pakistan”. agencies
