India again blames Pakistan for 26/11

* Indian national security adviser says Headley’s interrogation revealed links between him, ‘official establishment’

NEW DELHI: Joining the ongoing verbal duals between India and Pakistan, Indian National Security Adviser (NSA) Shiv Shankar Menon claimed on Tuesday that there was a clear connection between suspected terrorist David Coleman Headley and Pakistani intelligence agencies.

“For us, it’s been brought home most recently by what we learnt from Headley, which confirms many of the things that we knew before. And it’s really the links between the official establishment and the existing intelligence agencies,” said Menon, while addressing a policy seminar.

Though he did not name Pakistan during his speech, his insinuations were clearly targeted against Islamabad. He claimed that the nexus between terrorists and official agencies was getting stronger. “It’s that nexus which makes it a much harder phenomenon for us to deal with. Unfortunately, what we know and what we see suggests that links of this nexus will not be broken soon. If anything, they are getting stronger,” he added.

Headley, who is in a Chicago jail, was interrogated by Indian investigators, including officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), last month.

Menon also pointed to links between terror groups operating in the region, saying that over the years these groups had fused together and were now using the same communication system to conduct operations. “Considering all this, there is far less possibility of being optimistic,” he said.

“There is a much clearer picture today of the infrastructure of terrorism, which is not confined to South Asia, but also affects the entire world,” he said.
