Flood-affected Rajanpur areas declared ‘calamity-hit’
RAJANPUR: All worst hit areas of Rajanpur, due to heavy rains and floods, have been declared calamity-stricken, Commissioner DI Khan Division Hasan Iqbal said on Friday.
Flash floods are expected to hit Head Khanki and Qadirabad areas while over 60 villages have been completely inundated with water due to similar floods that originated from Koh Suleman.
The Commissioner DI Khan said that helicopters have been requisitioned from the Army to help airlift the marooned people.
Diversion was made available for Khushhaal Express train after flash floods washed away a railway track near Wali Mazari railway station.
The water accumulation at Head Khanki has surged to an alarming 200,000 cusecs.
Flash floods also caused damage to ready crops of wheat and Dhaan in villages located next to Head Khanki while 250,000 cusecs floodwater is passing through Head Qadirabad.
According to the administration, over 72 villages located between Head Khanki and Head Qadirabad are presently at risk of being flooded as passing floods are steadily becoming stronger with the addition of more water.
The protective embankments of Jehlum and Chanab rivers are being strengthened in view of a risk of flooding, DCO Sargodha Zulfiqar Shah said.
