Indian concerns over Pak-US ties misplaced: Holbrooke
NEW DELHI: Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, said on Thursday that Indian concerns over closer US-Pakistan ties were misplaced. “Improved American relations with Pakistan are not bad for India,” Holbrooke told reporters in New Delhi. Holbrooke also urged both India and Pakistan to improve their ties, saying better ties were in the interest of both countries as well as the whole region. He also said that the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) was “as dangerous as the Taliban and al Qaeda, with whom it was working”. He also rejected Indian fears over Pakistan’s growing role in Afghanistan. “You cannot stabilise Afghanistan without the participation of Pakistan as a legitimate concerned party,” he said. iftikhar gilani
