Bar associations should point out corruption in judiciary: CJP
* Justice Iftikhar says corruption cannot be tolerated at any cost
* Asks judicial officers not to indulge themselves in corrupt practices
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has said that the bar associations should point out corruption in judiciary at any level so that corrupt elements could be uprooted from this noble profession.
He expressed these views while addressing a 20-member delegation of the Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) who called on him on Thursday under the leadership of former IBA president Niazullah Niazi at the Supreme Court, said a press release issued here.
“Corruption cannot be tolerated at any cost because it affects not only the performance of the institution but also brings bad name. Judicial Officers have been bestowed with respect and reverence so they should not indulge themselves in such practices as it brings bad name for the institution,” Justice Iftikhar said.
He said that cells have also been established in each high court as well as the Supreme Court for eradication of corruption. Any complaint regarding the corruption along with evidence could be sent to the cell, he observed. Justice Iftikhar said that the efforts of bar proved fruitful and they achieved their destiny in the shape of newly restored independent judiciary.
The chief justice said that appointment of young lawyers as local commissioners to record evidence was initiated with a view to facilitate and encourage young lawyers getting training and experience in the field of litigation. By this practice, they would be able to understand the process of administration of justice and would be proved an asset in future, he said. The delegation discussed with the chief justice issues and matters of interest of the legal fraternity.
They informed him about their problems like establishment of banking and NAB courts and appointment of more judges in district judiciary at Islamabad. Justice Iftikhar assured them to help them out in this regard. They expressed the hope that the administration of justice needs his leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large. app
