Pak-Afg transit trade deal challenged in LHC

LAHORE: The transit trade agreement, reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday morning, Geo news reported.

In a plea, the petitioner requested the honorable court to declare the agreement void being contradictory to constitution of Pakistan.

Former President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA), Advocate Shafqat Mehmood Chauhan filed petition, challenging the outcomes of Pak-Afg transit trade pact, saying that the pact will promote likelihood of smuggling of poppy and arms from Afghanistan.

“It will also surge opportunities of terror activities in Pakistan, seeing the fragile security arrangements being adopted by both governments at border and will make it possible for terror-triggering elements to easily pour from Afghanistan into Pakistan, the petition said.

Many kinds of prohibited and banned goods from India could be smuggled into Pakistan en-route Afghanistan if the agreement gets go ahead signal, which would cause negative impact on local industry, the petition stated.

The petitioner said that the deal would ultimately wreck havoc with already reeling economy of Pakistan.
