NEPRA allows FESCO to increase power tariffs

* Rates to go up by Rs 2.73 per unit during peak hours and 82 paisas per unit in off-peak hours for residential consumers

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has allowed the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) to raise power tariff to Rs 2.73 per unit during peak hours and 82 paisas per unit in off-peak hours for residential consumer for the last quarter (March-June) of fiscal year 2009-10.

According to the new schedule of electricity tariff for FESCO, NEPRA has allowed FESCO to charge Rs 2 per unit for residential consumers for usage of up to 50 units. If the consumption exceeded 50 units, FESCO would charge Rs 8 per unit for units between one and 100.

The power supply company would charge Rs 11 per unit for consumption of units between 101 and 300 units, with an increase of 76 paisas, while Rs 13.25 per unit would be charged for units consumed between 301 and 700, with an increase of Rs 3 per unit.

NEPRA has allowed FESCO to charge Rs 15 per unit against units over and above 700 units for residential consumers, with an increase of Rs 2.23.

Similarly, power consumers falling in the industrial category would be charged Rs 10.70 per unit in the B1 category, using less than five kilowatts, with an increase of Rs 1.70 per unit.

Consumers falling in category B2 (a) would be charged Rs 9.50 per unit for between 5KW-500KW at 400/230 volts, with an increase of Rs 2.21, while those in category B2 (b), consuming 5KW-500KW (at 400 volts) within peak hours would be charged up to Rs 14.50 per unit, with an increase of Rs 3.45, and the industrial consumers would be charged Rs 8 per unit for off-peak hours, with an increase of Rs 1.26.

The new power tariff schedule reveals that Rs 14.40 per unit will be charged for consumption of all loads up to 5000KW (at 1,133 kilovolts) during peak hours, with an increase of Rs 3.75, while Rs 7.50 per unit would be charged for off-peak hours, with an increase of Rs 1.38 per unit.

FESCO will charge Rs 14.30 per unit for the consumption for all loads (at 66,132KV and above) during peak hours, with an increase of Rs 4, while the industrial sector will be charged Rs 7 per unit against the same capacity of consumption, with an increase of Rs 1.26

In the industrial category for B1 consumers, there will be a fixed minimum charge of Rs 350 per month, Rs 2,000 per month for B2 category consumers, Rs 50,000 per month for B3 consumers, while B4 consumers will be charged a fixed minimum rate of Rs 500,000 per month.

For the agriculture sector, NEPRA has raised the tariff for FESCO consumers by up to Rs 10 per unit against consumption of less than 5KW, with an increase of Rs 1.86 per unit, and Rs 7 per unit for power consumption by agricultural tube wells, with an increase of Rs 1.89.

FESCO will charge Rs 14.50 per unit on power consumption of more than 5KW during peak hours, with an increase of Rs 4.78.
