PML-N issues charge sheet on PPP govt’s performance
By Vidya Rana
ISLAMABAD: While keeping mum over the government’s decision to grant a three-year extension in the tenure of the chief of army staff, the PML-N has issued a charge sheet against the Pakistan People’s Party-led government for its poor performance and backing corrupt elements in various state institutions.
“We will share our party’s stance over the extension of General Kayani after consulting Nawaz Sharif when he returns to Pakistan,” PML-N spokesman Ahsan Iqbal told reporters on Saturday.
He added that 2013 would the year of a “grand vacuum” when all three pillars, the president, prime minister and the COAS, “will go home after completing their terms”.
Criticising the PPP-led government, Ahsan said the present regime did not deem it necessary to even take its allies into confidence in the decision-making process. “Even the government’s allies complain that they were not consulted over strategic dialogue with India, Afghanistan and the US. We demand that the government inform all of us as to what is going on with regards to such important issues,” he said.
On the issue of fake degree holders, he said the government was trying to patronise all those who were accused of forgery.
“Why are efforts being made to create confusion over the mandate of the Higher Education Commission?” he questioned. While talking about corrupt practices within the government circles, Ahsan accused the government for misusing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to the benefit of those involved in corruption at various levels.
