School launched by army in South Waziristan
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: A public school constructed by the military was launched in a remote tehsil of South Waziristan on Friday to arm the youth with education, which would be useful against the Taliban-linked militancy.
A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that tribal elders Alam Jan and Momin Khan Wazir were the guests of honour during the inaugural ceremony and officials of the Birmal tehsil. Birmal tehsil lies on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan and its residents lack basic facilities like education, health and jobs. Tableaus were presented on the occasion in which the importance of education was highlighted.
Major General Rizwan Akhtar addressed the gathering and highlighted the army’s contributions in education and various projects being undertaken in the area. He said that the Khamrang Army Public School was constructed on a self-help basis, offering free education to students by trained army teachers. Moreover, free books and uniforms would also be given to the children, he added.
