SHC disposes MQM petition over AJK polls put off
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has disposed of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) petition against the postponement of elections on the two Karachi seats of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on the pretext of law and order situation.
MQM lawyer Dr. Farough Naseem in the earlier hearing of the petition had explained that although the petitioners were approaching Azad Kashmir High Court as regards the elections postponement, but the petition filed in this court the report relating to the Karachi adverse law and order situation of the DIG Headquarter has been challenged. Dr Farough Naseem argued that even if the order for holding of elections were issued by the Azad Kashmir High Court, this report would be an impediment in the holding of elections and, therefore, the DIG report be declared void.
The government lawyer today gave an assurance in writing that whenever the elections were held, the government would be providing full security for the purpose.
The two-member bench of the court disposing of the MQM constitutional petition ordered that the government preparing any report on law and order situation relating to the holding of elections, then it must first take all the candidates into confidence.
