MQM observes day of mourning: city wears deserted look
KARACHI: MPAs of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will hold a peaceful demonstration today (Friday) to protest against the continuing bloodbath in Karachi. Majority of the petrol pumps are closed across the city while public transport is also not available, Geo News reported Friday.
The party said no immediate strike call was being given, keeping the situation in mind. On the other hand, the MQM Coordination Committee has also announced a day of mourning today against the violence.
The members of the Sindh Assembly would stage a march on Friday from the Karachi Press Club to the Chief Minister’s House.
According to the statement, the protest is being planned against the fast deteriorating situation of Karachi, particularly the attacks by armed terrorists on localities in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, Gulfamabad and other areas of the city.
The Coordination Committee has deplored and strongly condemned the acts of wanton terrorism by armed terrorists killing and injuring the Urdu-speaking people after stopping passenger buses and ascertaining their identity.
The Coordination Committee has appealed to the citizens of Karachi to take full part in the day of mourning and express their solidarity with those who had lost their lives in the current wave of terrorism. The committee asked the people to hoist black flags, wear black armbands in order to register their protest over the bloodbath and terrorism in the city. The committee offered its condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
