Commissionerate system restored in Sindh
* Acting Sindh governor promulgates ordinances to suspend Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2000 and Police Order 2002
KARACHI: The commissionerate system has been restored in Sindh, said an official statement issued on Saturday.
The statement said that Sindh acting governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro promulgated three ordinances on Saturday, which will take effect immediately. “Accordingly, the commissionerate system, Sindh Local Government Ordinance 1979 and Police Act 1861 have been restored,” the statement said, adding, “Sindh government has suspended Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2000 and Police Order 2002 with immediate effect.”
Subsequent to this, the system, which bifurcated operation by police and investigation into separate departments, would come to an end. The statement said that this was causing inconveniences to people in getting remedy for their grievances.
It said that the Police Order 2002 was enforced by the then president Pervez Musharraf without seeking opinion of people, and that at that time there was no political government. “The elected government has taken a judicious decision and restored the Police Act 1861,” it added.
The acting governor has also approved restoration of the Local Government Ordinance 1979, under which several local bodies elections were conducted and people got an opportunity to dispose of local bodies affairs according to their wishes.
“Sindh Local Government Ordinance 200 was also enforced by the then president Pervez Musharraf against the wishes of people,” the statement said, adding, ‘Only Musharraf was authorised to amend this for nine years.” “There was a lot of debate on this issue and the government has now resolved it in accordance with aspirations of people,” the statement concluded. staff report/app
