Govt refuses to reinstate Zafar Quereshi
ISLAMABAD: A three member Supreme Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Iftihkar Mohammed Chaudhry heard the NICL case on Thursday.
During proceedings the CJP directed the Attorney General to reinstate Zafar Quereshi as the chief investigative officer in the NICL case and submit the report to the court today (Thursday).
After break, the Attorney General informed the court that the government had refused to reinstate Zafar Quereshi while four other officers involved in the investigation had been reinstated. Prior to this when the proceedings began, CJP asked acting DG FIA to submit the notification of the reinstatement of the four officers. The FIA tried to present a draft, which angered the CJP and he said that the statement should be brought to the court within ten minutes.
The acting DG FIA signed the notification and presented it to the court. CJP remarked that why was everyone trying to protect an individual who had 14,000 pounds in a foreign bank account. He said that the charge sheet had still not been completed and the court would get individuals arrested while the government would protect them. Should the court think that there is political interference in this case?” CJP asked. He added that the case had become a nuisance and advertisements were being run against the court.
