* Jamil Bugti rejects commission

QUETTA: The federal government has decided to constitute a judicial commission led by a judge of the Supreme Court (SC) to probe into the factors leading to the assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti in Bugti tribal territory in 2006.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the federal cabinet held in Quetta on Wednesday. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over the meeting. The meeting focused on the implementation of Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package.

Federal Minister for Information Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan briefed newsmen on decisions taken at the meeting. “The cabinet has decided to form a judicial commission to probe into the assassination of Baloch nationalist leader, Nawab Bugti,” she told newsmen.

Responding to a question that the cabinet’s decision would delay Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) orders seeking international arrest warrants of an accused nominated in Bugti murder case, the federal minister said it was not a hidden fact and, “We are talking about the apex court, which will be an appropriate forum for considering the sensitive case.”

Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, the eldest son of Nawab Bugti, has rejected the commission, saying he has no expectations from the incumbent government.

He told newsmen over telephone that he expressed his complete distrust in the present government.

Firdaus claimed that the government had completed 60 percent of Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package, while the remaining would be completed within the next two months.

She lauded the roles of the Balochistan governor and chief minister in presenting the case before the federal government in an appropriate manner.

“The prime minister has lifted ban on recruitment in government departments with immediate effect,” she said, adding, “Establishment Division has also indicated 6,700 vacant posts from grade 7 to 20 in different departments of the federal government.” These posts will be filled by candidates from Balochistan,” she added.

“The selection board will conduct all its interviews and tests in Quetta without loosing time so that the candidates need not travel to the federal capital,” she explained.
