KARACHI: Around 80 percent of the Kacchi population, who had migrated to the other parts of city due to Lyari unrest, is returning back to their homes after an assurance from Sindh police to beef up security for averting such violent episodes in the future.

According to DIG South Commander Shaukat a meeting chaired by President Zardari on Sunday reviewed the poor law and order situation of Lyari and decided to take remedial measures to avoid such violent incidents in the future.

Subsequently, CCPO Karachi Saud Mirza along with Commander Shaukat, SSP Lyari and SHO Baghdadi visited the most affected parts of Lyari.

The city police chief during his visit persuaded the inhabitants belonging to Kacchi community to return back to their homes since the government had decided to deploy 150 police commandos in Lyari.

He said that the Sindh government has also decided to form a committee having the representation of Kacchi community, People’s Amn Committee (PAC) and government officials. He said, President Zardari is keen to provide compensation to the residents of Lyari for their losses and the same will be done at party level.

He said that the Sindh police will also establish a check-post at the most controversial plot of Lyari near Khadda market, possession of which is claimed by three different groups, including Kacchi, PAC and Deobandi school of thought. He said around 150 commandos will initially be deployed in the area and if the situation demands, the strength could be multiplied to 250 commandos.

He said that around 80 percent of Kacchi population, which was forced to migrate to the other parts of city because of Lyari unrest, is returning back to their homes after the assurance of Sindh police.

Needless to mention, serious notice was taken by President Zardari on Lyari situation after a Kacchi protest rally came under an armed attack at Maripur road on Saturday.

Scores of Kachi Rabita Committee (KRC) members tried to march towards the Chief Minister’s House to express their resentment against the defunct PAC and Lyari gangsters, who allegedly occupied dozens of Kacchi houses at Jatoi Muhalla, Nayaabad and others during the recent episode of violence in Lyari. However the protesters could not reach their destination because of an armed attack, which left seven persons including a woman in a pool of blood.
