‘Sarfaraz murder created terror among people’

KARACHI: The Inspector Boat Basin police station and Prosecution Witness (PW) Mubeen Ahmad Rajput told the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday that due to the murder of Sarfaraz Shah by Rangers personnel, the people of the city were in terror until third day of the incident as he saw that no body came to visit the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park.
This he stated while testifying before ATC Judge Bashir Ahmad Khoso. Shaukat Hayat, a defence counsel of Pakistan Rangers personnel, said: “PW Rajput is a very significant witness but he is not speaking true.”
He also said: “The blemishes declared as the blemishes of Shah’s blood are actually of dots of tea, coffee, ice cream or pan.” Rajput rejected the submission of the defence counsel.
Replying to a query of the defence counsel, Rajput said: “ When he went to the place of the incident on the third day of the incident to collect some perceive articles related to the case, he saw only a security guard at the main gate (gate No.1), while no body seemed there. He said, “As the footages of the incident were aired on various TV channels, people were feeling terror as a result, they did not visit the park till third day of the incident.
He said he did not know that Shah was detained during a robbery. He also rejected Hayat’s claim that he produced AK-47 gun before the court.
He said DIG Sultan Khawaja was an in-charge of the Joint Investigation Team and also a senior police officer, so he and other team members were working under his directives. Rajput said Khawaja never directed him to arrange some persons from Hijrat Colony as prosecution witnesses.
Meanwhile, a division bench of the Sindh High Court, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by the Pakistan Rangers personnel accused in Shah’s murder case. The petition was filed to seek transfer of the case to sessions court from the ATC.
