Altaf asks political forces to play role for peace

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, on Friday, appealed to all political forces to play their role to establish long lasting peace and promote brotherhood in Sindh province, specially in Karachi. The MQM chief also strongly condemned the reported incidents of firing by miscreants in areas of Landhi, Malir and Khokhrapar. In a statement issued by the MQM on Friday, Altaf expressed deep grief over the deaths and injuries caused to his party activists and sympathisers during the violence. The MQM, claimed Altaf, was a peace-loving party and had been making positive efforts to promote brotherhood among various sects in Karachi for the cause of peace in the province. He said that miscreants wanted to sabotage the efforts for establishing a tranquil environment in the city. The MQM chief asserted that action be taken against the anti-peace elements without any discrimination and the people be provided protection. He also prayed for those killed in the violence and early recovery of those injured. Meanwhile, the MQM’s Cordination Committee strongly condemned the incidents of violence in different areas of Malir and Landhi. In a statement, the committee said that miscreants allegedly opened fire in various areas of Malir, killing several MQM workers and sympathisers and wounding many others. It claimed the reported incidents of violence showed that miscreants wanted to disturb peaceful environment in the city. The MQM body called upon the authorities concerned to take action against those involved in violence and all possible steps be taken to maintain law and order in the city. It also said the MQM would continue its efforts to preserve peace in the province. app
