Zardari forms committee to hold talks with MQM

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has constituted a four-member committee comprising senior leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in order to hold negotiations with former coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other parties as a part of the continued reconciliation process, sources told Daily Times, here on Saturday.
In this regard, a meeting was chaired by Zardari at Bilawal House. It was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial ministers Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Agha Siraj Durrani, Manzoor Wasan, Ayaz Soomro, Sharjeel Memon, Murad Ali Shah and others.
The meeting discussed the prevailing political situation and the PPP’s relations with its coalition partners. Zardari directed the party leaders to improve law and order situation in Sindh, particularly, in Karachi as their foremost priority.
He also formed a four-member committee to discuss the issues relating to MQM, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and Awami National Party.
The committee comprises Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Agha Siraj Durrani, Ayaz Soomro and MNA Abdul Qadir Patel. The committee will discuss issues relating to the coalition partners.
Sources further said that the meeting between Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Zardari had made significant development.
He assured the Sindh Governor of settling all issues, including reforms in the commissionerate system, according to the reservations of the MQM.
A day earlier, Durrani met the Sindh Governor in order to normalise the situation between PPP and MQM. He also assured him of his full cooperation on this occasion.
Durrani expressed confidence that the issues would be resolved in a positive manner under the leadership of Dr Khan.
He also briefed the Sindh Governor on the ongoing development projects and matters pertaining to the local government.
The Sindh Governor said process of reconciliation could be strengthened further after its advantages reach the common men.
