Loadshedding increases in Karachi due to decrease in gas supply
KARACHI: The electricity shortfall in the city has risen drastically and residents are facing 10 hours of loadshedding, Geo News reported. KESC management says that if there is no improvement in the supply of gas than the situation will worsen.
According to the spokesperson for KESC, loadshedding is taking place because Sui Southern Gas Company has decreased the pressure of gas. Many power plants have tripped and supply of 80 MW to the city has stopped. The spokesperson added that KESC will have to cut supply to government institutions and the gas quota should be fulfilled because the company cannot work on furnace oil alone.
On the other hand, Sui Southern Gas Company claims SSGC board gave the orders to disconnect KESC’s connection because on non-payment of dues. KESC owes Sui Southern Rs 28 billion and have not cleared dues from last month.
