Manmohan accepts invite to visit Pakistan
NEW DELHI: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Wednesday and conveyed the message of goodwill from Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral matters of mutual interest. On behalf of Prime Minister Gilani, Hina Rabbani Khar invited the Indian prime minister to visit Pakistan. Dr Manmohan Singh accepted the invitation.
Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik and Additional Secretary Sajjad Kamran were also present at the meeting.
Khar also met the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, and Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader LK Advani on Wednesday.
The foreign minister underscored the importance of BJP’s support for a sustained and result-oriented engagement between Pakistan and India.
She informed both the leaders that there was consensus among all Pakistani political parties on the improvement of relations with India.
Sushma Swaraj and LK Advani said that the BJP was in favour of better relations with Pakistan. They pointed out that it was during the BJP government’s term of office that a number of positive developments took place in India’s relations with Pakistan. app
