Government respects all institutions: PM
ISLAMABAD: Rubbishing clash between institutions as ‘speculations’, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Thursday, said the present government respected all institutions. “We restored the 1973 constitution, which is a sufficient proof that we want to build institutions. These are all speculations. We know spirit of the constitution,” Gilani said in response to a question about the government’s current relations with the Supreme Court (SC). Talking to media men after attending a photo exhibition on ‘Spirit of Peace - 50 Years of Pakistan’s Contribution to UN Peacekeeping’, the prime minister said as far as the US assistance in the war on terror was concerned the Pakistani government and military were on the same page. “We are on the same page. We all are together”, he stressed. Gilani said that US was a strategic partner of Pakistan and both the countries were ready to resolve their issues, including those pertaining to military assistance. He said Pakistan wanted its relations with India on the basis of equality and mutual respect. The prime minister said Pakistan rejected efforts to establish regional hegemony by any state. Gilani recognised that the function commemorated Pakistan’s selfless and valued role for the maintenance of peace and stability in the world for over half a century under the banner of the United Nations. He said history of the UN was replete with successful efforts to address the challenges posed to peace and security around the globe. The prime minister said Pakistani people faced acts of terrorism on daily basis and its huge impact on impressionable youth, who are exposed to these incidents of terror, is colossal. “Fighting militancy and terrorism is a collective responsibility of the civilized world,” he said. app
