Indo-Pak dialogue should continue uninterrupted: Khar

* Foreign minister says Indian leadership wants better ties with Pakistan

* Terms talks with India as constructive

Staff Report

LAHORE: Expressing satisfaction over Pak-India talks, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said dialogue between the two countries should continue uninterrupted.

On return from India on Thursday, after the completion of much hyped Pak-India talks, Hina, while talking to media men at old Lahore airport, stressed the importance of continuity in dialogue. She said, “Dialogue process with India should continue uninterrupted as it loses credibility when it is interrupted.”

She said India reciprocated to Pakistan’s desire of seeing India as a stable country by wishing Pakistan to be a stable neighbouring state.

She added that both sides gave positive messages to normalize the ties. She termed talks with Indians as candid and constructive. She said she and her entourage had a detailed discussion on all outstanding issues with the Indian leadership, including the core issue of Kashmir.

She said talks were in Pakistan’s interest, as Indian PM Manmohan Singh assured India wanted to resolve all issues, including Kashmir and was willing to walk an extra mile for the purpose. She was of the view that breakthrough in the dialogue was in Pakistan’s interest. Hina told the media that she had made it clear to the Indians that Kashmir was an integral part of Pakistan and no efforts could succeed until a longstanding solution to the conflict was found.

She said that regional peace was vital for the progress of both the countries. The foreign minister said she also had meetings with the Kashmiri leadership, and these meetings were disliked by many in New Delhi. She, however, stressed that no country or region could progress without peace.

“The Indian leadership also showed willingness to have a meaningful dialogue,” she said. She said trial of Mumbai bombing accused should be expedited, adding discussions had been going on for long time now.
