CAA submits Airblue inquiry report to govt
KARACHI: The investigation report into the crash of Airblue flight has been completed and submitted to the federal government, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said here on Thursday. Pursuant to the provisions of Civil Aviation Rules and International Civil Aviation Organisation Standard and Recommended Practices, the investigation report will be released on the receipt of comments from State of Manufacture and State of Design namely BEA-France (Airbus), National Transportation Safety Board-USA, (IAE) and German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents - BFU, a CAA release said. A detailed investigation by an expert team headed by President Safety Investigation Board was carried out. All aspects including internal/external sabotage, incapacitation of the aircraft systems, in flight fire, bird strike or structural fatigue, human factor, organisational factors, etc. have been adequately analysed in the investigation, it said. The investigation into the crash of Airblue flight No ABQ-202 was ordered by the Government of Pakistan, as State of Occurrence and Registry under Civil Aviation Rules 1994 vide Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Defence, No AT-8(2)/2010 dated July 28, 2010. Besides a team of investigators from Pakistan, various accredited representatives, advisors and experts also participated from various States involved, which included; BEA-France, Airbus-France, NTSB-USA, IAE-USA and BFU-Germany as per the requirements of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 13 Chapter 5. Necessary notifications as per ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) to all stakeholders were also issued. ABQ-202, aircraft A-321, AP-BJB, on 28 July 2010, operated by Airblue was scheduled to fly a domestic flight sector Karachi - Islamabad. The aircraft had 152 persons on board, including six crewmembers. The unlucky aircraft took off from Karachi at 07:41am. At time 08:00am, while executing a circling approach for RWY-12 at Islamabad, it flew into Margalla Hills, and crashed at a distance of 9.6 Nautical Miles (17.77 kilometers), on a radial 334 from Islamabad VOR. The aircraft was completely destroyed and unfortunately all souls aboard the aircraft sustained fatal injuries. ppi
