Asma warns against defying court orders

* SCBA president says misunderstanding among institutions will destabilise country

PESHAWAR: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jehangir on Friday warned against defying the court orders, asking the government to implement the Supreme Court decisions in letter and spirit.

Addressing the Peshawar High Court Bar and District Bar Association, she said that the Supreme Court’s decisions whether correct or wrong should be implemented for supremacy of law.

“The government should implement the apex court verdicts whether right or wrong otherwise non-implementation will lead the country towards anarchy,” she said.

Asma said that the government had the right to file review petition in case it did not like a decision. However, she said the government should also be given space for implementation of decisions. The issuance of orders to government on daily basis would have naturally a reaction, she added.

She said that hidden hands were trying to create misunderstanding and misconception among the state institutions to derail democracy, and lawyers would thwart such conspiracies for the sake of people.

She said that misunderstanding among state institutions would destabilise the country and would create anarchy in society. She said any undemocratic move would strongly be resisted and she would be the first to go to jail.

She said lawyers would not be party in the current deadlock and would remain independent. app
