Court seeks record of joint account of Musharraf, Sehba
RAWALPINDI: A special anti-terrorism court on Saturday summoned the record of joint account of former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf and his wife Sehba Musharraf.
The court heard the petition, filed by Sehba Musharraf, against freezing of their assets and bank accounts in the Benazir Bhutto murder case. Special Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar, on behalf of FIA, told the court that the investigation officer of the case, Khalid Rasool, had been transferred to Dera Ismail Khan a few days ago and a new officer had yet to be appointed to probe the matter.
Ilyas Siddiqui, the counsel for Sehba Musharraf, said the court had frozen the said accounts after declaring Pervez Musharraf proclaimed offender in the Benazir Bhutto murder case. He said they were joint accounts and the court should, therefore, unfreeze them.
But Chaudhry Zulfiqar said, “According to law, no action can be taken over such petitions until a proclaimed offender is arrested.”
He added that authorities had written to the British government and Interpol to arrest Musharraf but the former president had neither been arrested nor had he surrendered. The court directed the FIA to get record of the bank accounts and submit it to the court. The court adjourned the hearing until July 14. online
