NAB chief exposed Zardari-Nawaz nexus: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief’s statement that President Asif Ali Zardari had barred him from reopening cases against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, had exposed “the obvious collusion between Zardari and Nawaz”.

Khan asked what else was needed as evidence for “the underhand deal” between the two. He said the nation had seen “the deal” unfolding on numerous occasions in the last four years. Nawaz helped Zardari get elected as president and then both parties formed a coalition government in Punjab, he added.

“We still remember that whenever Zardari would be in trouble, Nawaz would come to his rescue, making the excuse that the system had to be saved,” the PTI chief said, adding that on one occasion, the PML-N chief had said that even if the entire PPP deserted Zardari, he would be there to help him.

He said the PML-N and PPP had colluded during the Senate elections, in the by-elections, and in ensuring that fresh elections were not held until next year, adding that “the entire evidence pointed to a long history of a secret understanding between Zardari and Nawaz”.

“It is a strange argument that because the elections are near, no further cases would be opened against politicians. In fact, a house-cleaning before the elections is most essential,” Khan said. The NAB chairman was not authorised to arbitrarily decide that prosecution against corruption should be halted, he added.

The PTI chairman said that his party would not tolerate “the collusion between Zardari, Nawaz and NAB”, adding that the party would pursue the matter right to the end and if NAB still desisted from taking corruption cases further, the PTI reserved the right to take up the matter in superior courts. online
