Musa Gilani granted bail in ephedrine case

By Asghar Azad

KARACHI: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son, Ali Musa Gilani, was on Monday granted a two-week protective bail against a sum of Rs 100,000 by a division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) headed by Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi.

Musa Gilani had filed an application seeking protective transit bail in ephedrine quota case so that he could appear before the relevant court.

Justice Rizvi proceeded the application in his chamber where Musa Gilani appeared along with his counsels and the deputy attorney general.

Musa Gilani submitted that he was not involved in the ephedrine quota case, saying, “Unfortunately, I am being dragged into the case for political gains.”

He submitted, “I want to appear before the relevant trial court in order to defend myself which is also my legal and constitutional right. I will enter the Punjab province only to be arrested by the police.” He prayed to the court to grant him with protective transit bail.

It is pertinent to mention that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Court’s judge, Shafqatullah Khan, had issued non-bailable warrants for the arrests of former federal health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin; former health secretary Khushnood Lashari and Syed Ali Musa Gilani for their alleged involvement in ephedrine quota case.

The notice was issued overnight after Shahabuddin had been chosen as the new prime minister.
