Imran Khan demands action against NAB chief

* PTI chief urges Fasih Bukhari to resign immediately

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, while demanding immediate resignation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Fasih Bukhari over an alleged statement regarding cases against the Sharif brothers, asked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo muto action against him.

NAB is an independent institution and its chairman had no authority to pick and choose cases on the basis of personal liking and disliking or under the instructions of his political bosses, he said.

In a press conference held at the PTI Central Secretariat on Monday, Khan asked the NAB chairman to reveal the nature and level of his relations with real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. He also called upon Riaz to announce in public, under an oath, the names of those in bureaucracy, military and politics who had got financial benefits from him.

The PTI chief accused the government of hatching conspiracies against the Supreme Court, saying that “President Asif Ali Zardari is the mastermind behind a recent attack on the apex court and the chief justice, and Malik Riaz is a business partner and front man of President Zardari”.

He also denounced Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, challenging him to take legal action against the publisher of a newspaper that had written about his corruption, or accept the charges levelled against him.

He also criticised the Punjab government, particularly for mishandling the doctors’ issue, saying the issues like dengue virus, substandard medicines, burning of infants in a hospital and paramedics’ strike had exposed the claims of good governance in the province.

Earlier, former PML-N provincial minister from Multan Saeed Ahmed Qureshi announced his joining of the PTI.
