Kayani declared Gen Allen’s ‘soft apology’ insufficient

ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani has declared insufficient the “privately-rendered soft apology” of ISAF commander General Allen over the Salala incident. British media giant BBC, quoting an “important Pakistan Army officer well informed about diplomatic endeavours between Pakistan and the USA”, said that while General Kayani appreciated and encouraged the ‘private apology’ of ISAF’s General Allen, yet he had declared it insufficient. General Kayani stressed the fact that the issue was not between two armies, but two states, and hence could only be resolved at state level. Army sources said that on demand of General Kayani, the meeting was held at the Foreign Ministry, instead of being held at the GHQ in Rawalpindi, in presence of other army officers. Sources said that high-level diplomatic efforts had been made for the talks, adding that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had made a special request to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in that regard. During the talks, other issues like drone attacks and resumption of NATO supplies through Pakistan were also discussed. online
