Restoration of NATO supply routes challenged in SC
LAHORE: Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party on Monday moved an application before Supreme Court, challenging restoration of NATO supplies for ISAF troops in Afghanistan.
He filed the application before Lahore registry of the apex court in his already pending petition seeking permanent ban on the supplies. He stated that the restoration of the NATO supply routes on July 4 on Independence Day of the United States was against the sovereignty and prestige of the country, and in violation of the parliamentary resolutions.
He stated that reopening of the NATO supply routes, also known as Ground Lines of Communication (GLOC), would spread new wave of terrorism in the country and the resumption was replied by US in two drone attacks, killing more than 20 citizens. He stated that the US “sorry” on killing of 26 army soldiers meant nothing, while lethal weapons transported via these routes to Afghanistan could be used against Pakistan. staff report
