PAC expresses anguish over corruption in Livestock Department

ABBOTTABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has expressed dissatisfaction over the reports of corruption and poor performance of the provincial Livestock Department. In a committee meeting, which held was under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Karamatullah Khan, on Tuesday, it was observed that the government provided huge funds to the department, but its performance was poor. The meeting was attended by its other members, Saqibullah Khan Chamkani, Fazal Shakoor, Malik Tehmash Khan and Muhammad Zameen Khan besides secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Agriculture Department. The committee checked the audit reports of the Livestock Department and took serious notice of alleged embezzlement of 400 feed bags at Dera Ismail Khan Research Centre. The committee was informed that Rs 2.46 million were misplaced in this case, following which the matter was referred to the provincial Anti-Corruption Department (ACD). The committee directed the ACD to investigate the case in one week and report to the PAC. PAC also ordered that Rs 0.6 million be recovered from the Peshawar Agriculture University vice chancellor, who reportedly drew house rent from the treasury despite staying in the official residence. abdul khaliq qureshi
