NRO Case: PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf's reply not submitted

ISLAMABAD: The reply of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the NRO case was not submitted in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

A five member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Khosa heard the NRO case. During proceedings Attorney General Irfan Qadir informed the apex court that the federal cabinet would evaluate the matter of implementation after the summary of the Law Ministry was received.

The AG requested the court to adjourn proceedings till after summer vacations as the Law Ministry and Secretary required some time to become familiar with the case.

Justice Asif Khosa said the court would reply to the request to adjourn the case after 3:30 pm.

During its last proceedings on June 27, the Supreme Court had directed Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to submit his reply in the NRO implementation case on July 12.

It should be mentioned here that the Supreme Court, on March 8, directed the then prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to write the letter to the Swiss authorities for reopening the graft cases against President Zardari, regardless of the advice, and submit a report on March 21 after implementation of the order.

But, Gilani refused to do so and the court subsequently on April 26 convicted him on contempt charge.

Later, the court disqualified Gilani on June 19 while hearing numerous identical petitions against National Assembly speaker's decision of not sending the reference to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against him.
