President approves appointment of Fakhruddin as CEC

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the Prime Minister, assented to the appointment of former Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim as Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan during a special signing ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr here on Friday.

The Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) had agreed with consensus on the nomination of Justice Fakhruddin to be appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs requested the prime minister to advise the president to accord his assent to the said nomination.

Those, who were present during the ceremony, included federal ministers Farooq H. Naek, Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din and Syed Khursheed Shah, Senator Islam-ud-Din Sheikh, Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel, Ch. Manzoor Ahmed, Secretary General M. Salman Faruqui, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar, Ms Rukhsana Bangash and Ms Fouzia Habib.
