Arsalan Iftikhar files review petition

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) resumed hearing of the graft case involving Dr Arsalan Iftikhar and business tycoon Malik Riaz, Geo News reported Friday.

During today’s proceedings, Arsalan Iftikhar filed a review petition stating that the court’s orders are not being followed properly as the court did not order the attorney general to forward the case to National Accountability Bureau (NAB). It shows that the attorney general has interpreted the court’s decision in a wrong way, the petitioner stated.

He also alleged that the joint investigation committee formed to probe the graft case is illegal and biased as its members have close links with Malik Riaz.

The petition also revealed that the head of the team Kausar Iqbal owns a house in Bahria Town’s Executive Lodges while SP Faisal Memon’s links with Riaz are not hidden from any one.

The review petition has requested to make Federation, Malik Riaz, Ali Ahmed Riaz and Bahria Town party in the case. Another miscellaneous petition has also been filed requesting to make chairman NAB and Salman Ahmed party in the case.

Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, through a legal notice recently served on chairman NAB, has questioned the impartiality and legality of the NAB and its chief Admiral (R) Fasieh Bukhari to probe the Trapgate, arguing that the former naval chief and his family have had close relationship with Malik Riaz Hussian.

He had also objected to the role of the attorney general in referring the matter to NAB for probe, and argued that the AG had gone far beyond the mandate given to him by the SC because of his bias against the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
