PPP, MQM discuss LG system
KARACHI: The Core Committee meeting of the PPP and MQM convened again on Tuesday after a brief gap, but reportedly failed to reach a consensus over a local government system in the province, despite the fact that the Supreme Court and the Sindh High Court had both directed the provinces to fulfill the constitutional requirement of holding LB polls.
A brief statement issued by the chief minister’s spokesperson said that the PPP and MQM Core Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of CM Qaim Ali Shah at his official residence.
The meeting discussed various aspects of the proposed Sindh Local Government system. It was decided that another meeting of the core committee would be held at the CM House on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by PPP’s Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Aga Siraj Durrani, Ayaz Soomro and Syed Murad Ali Shah, while MQM was represented by Dr Farooq Sattar, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Wasay Jalil and Kanwar Naveed Jamil.
