Lord Nazir lauds role of Pakistanis, Kashmiris in UK

LONDON: Patron of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe, Lord Nazir Ahmad, said that the Pakistani and Kashmiri community living in the UK and Europe had been performing its role in the prosperity and well-being of their nation. He expressed these views during the launching ceremony of the 4th Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe, which are to be held on October 20.

He said organisers of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe should acknowledge the services performed by the Pakistani and Kashmiri community for their nation, which were a commendable effort. “Overseas Pakistanis and Kashmiris, whichever field they worked in, were enhancing the soft and progressive image of Pakistan. The all started off at grassroots and were now leaders in business, sports, politics, law and other fields. They upheld the name of Pakistan with their services, all such people are to be appreciated and acknowledged,” he said. Nazir congratulated the administration of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe for bringing these people in the limelight and appreciating them. He further said the overseas community should support and encourage such programmes where ideas were brought up for the progress and prosperity of the nation and where bright stars of the community are introduced to the world.

Labour Party Scotland Deputy Leader and Member of Parliament Anas Sarwar, speaking at the ceremony, said he was happy about the Pakistan Achievement Awards and it was through these programmes that people came to know how quickly their community was progressing and achieving honours in their respective fields.

Sarwar congratulated the administration on the establishment of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe and vowed to provide complete cooperation. Patron of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe and Habib Bank UK Chief Executive Officer Anwar Zaidi said, “We feel proud on the idea and thought behind the organisers of Pakistan Achievement Awards and enhance complete support for the programme.”

Sarwar further said that the people should not only support such programmes but should also point out the names of community heroes, who were providing vital work to their fields and avoided being in the limelight. He congratulated the administration on the establishment of Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe and vowed to provide complete cooperation.

He said, “The community heroes, who don’t need any introduction, and all such people who sacrificed for the country despite living overseas, their acknowledgment by the Pakistan Achievement Award is something to feel proud and happy about.”

Member Board of Advisory, ARY UK Chief Operating Officer Fayyaz Ghafoor said his organisation had always supported activities to promote the name of Pakistan in UK and Europe.

Waltham Forest Deputy Mayor Nadeem Ali, Awards Chairman A Haq, UK Pakistan Chamber of Commerce Director Shahid Mirza, Archbishop of Britain Representative Rana Khan and other dignitaries addressed at the launching ceremony of the Pakistan Achievement Awards UK and Europe 2012.

Rehman Sheikh briefed the media regarding the nomination procedure and the clear and transparent methods of selecting the lucky winners of the awards. People have to nominate their heroes and give their suggestions on the website www.pakawards.org.uk for the 4th Pakistan Achievement Awards that are to be held on October 20.
